Zoya Akhtar’s musical drama film Gully Boy becomes India’s official entry to Oscars 2020. Farhan Akhtar (co-producer) confirmed the news on Twitter appreciating all the film contributors.
Recently Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt who were starred in the Gully Boy received the best actor award at IIFA Awards 2019. Ranveer Singh got the award for Padmaavat whereas Alia Bhatt was honoured for starring in Raazi. Right after from Indian film, they are going to feel the Oscar vibes.
Oscars which is also known as Academy Awards. It is presented by (AMPAS) Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Oscars are awarded for excellence in cinematic achievement. As per the academy’s voting membership, Gully Boy has been chosen in the list for Oscars 2020.
Why Gully Boy is the right choice for Oscars 2020?
Director Zoya Akhtar depicted the life of Indian street rappers in Gully Boy. The film is a coming of age story inspired by lives of Divine and Naezy (Indian rappers from Mumbai). By asserting “Apna Time Aayega”, Zoya Akhtar conveyed the idea that everyone has a good time which meets us once.
The film also featured Siddhant Chaturvedi, Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz, Vijay Varma and Amruta Subhash in supporting roles.
The fourth highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2019 is now selected as India’s official entry for the best international feature film. This 92nd Award ceremony is going to be held on 9 February 2020.
Ranveer Singh Instagrammed a post appreciating the Film Federation of India. Alia Bhatt did the same. I guess the news overwhelmed everyone especially who was attached to the film.
There were other movies which were submitted for the Academy Award previously. After the nomination of Mother India, Salaam Bombay, and Lagaan, Gully Boy is in the pending list.
Though Gully Boy got good reviews from the critics as well. There is no doubt about the selection of Gully Boy for Oscars 2020. I hope they get nominated and win the Oscars 2020 award. Keep your fingers crossed.
