Facebook has seen quite a few ups and downs in the past couple of years. The news of Facebook breaching its user’s privacy made headlines for months. Mark Zuckerberg talked intensively about Facebook new features, privacy issues and laid a plan to fix it.
As a responsible CEO, Mark Zuckerberg addressed all the problems in the F8 Conference. Discussing the major issue of privacy and coming up with the updates which revolve around solving the problem. From developing the hardware to software and especially the security features, Facebook has come a long way.
1. Facebook App & Site
Facebook right now concentrates a lot on its newsfeeds on both app & site. In new reformed Facebook, the creators are focusing on communities and groups. As it is a public platform, Facebook will put communities and groups in the centre. This simultaneously deals with the problem of fake news.
The app also introduced Facebook Dating which has now rolled out in the US on 5th September. In Facebook Dating, you can choose people from your friend list as “Secret Crush” and if the person also adds you as a secret crush, you will be connected.
2. Messenger
With all the talk about the privacy breach, Facebook wants to assure its user regarding their data. Zuckerberg discussed self-destructive messages. The message will disappear after it has been read. This update will come as a sign of relief to the users.
Facebook is also focusing on connecting all its platform by calling and video calling. In the upcoming version, you can call your Instagram and Whatsapp contacts through messenger. And, last but not the least, over the next year Messenger will become the fastest messaging app on the planet. Wow no?
3. WhatsApp
Rolling out Product Catalogs Business on WhatsApp is in talks for a while now. With this update, people can browse and buy a product through WhatsApp. WhatsApp Business is already available in India for testing and will roll out worldwide in the near future.
4. Instagram
Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram are becoming business-friendly with every passing day. These platforms allow small businesses to thrive. After introducing WhatsApp Business in India, Instagram introduced a Shop Section in Explore page worldwide. This section made it easier for people who are trying to shop through Instagram. Every item in the Shop Section is directly linked to the site you can buy it from.
5. Portal
Mark Zuckerberg talked about introducing Portal. Portal will allow WhatsApp user to have end-to-end encrypted video calls. Just like end-to-end encrypted messages, with this update, no third party will be involved in the conversation giving the users full privacy that they deserve.
Facebook is still one of the most used social media app right now. With these updates, it will surely grain its credibility and trust of their users. He also hinted on other Facebook new features which he will discuss when the time is right. I can’t wait for newer and better Facebook.
