Debunk the myths about Vagina!
All of us know a lot about all our body parts except the parts down there that we are ignorant about. As George Bernard Shaw has aptly said, “Beware of false knowledge, it is more dangerous than ignorance” even we believe many myths surrounding the genitals due to our lack of knowledge.
Therefore, we are here to bust a few commonly believed myths about Vagina. Don’t believe them anymore, ladies!
Myths About Vagina
Myth 1: The whole area down there is Vagina!
Fact: Almost all of us must have made the mistake of believing this. The vagina is just a part of the whole and not the whole part itself. It is located inside the pelvis. The outer area includes the labia and the clitoris which refers to as the vulva.
Myth 2: You need special products to clean your vagina.
Fact: Your vagina cleans itself! The truth is that the vagina is designed in such a way that it cleans itself. It allows the good bacteria to thrive and kills the bad ones. Using special products to clean your vagina might just do more harm than good. Various products that are available in the market like wipes, lotions, and etc. may even cause irritation or rashes.
Myth 3: Your vagina normally smells bad.
Fact: It’s normal for the vagina to have some slight smell and that smell depends upon your menstrual cycle, after sex, or changes in hormones. It can also be because of sweating a lot. But the important thing is that you should know what is normal and what is not.
Myth 4: Vaginal discharge means something is wrong.
Fact: Discharge is expected from most of the women. It may happen mid-cycle when they are ovulating, it’s a little slimmer, mucusy, and clear. Some of them may even get it right before or after their periods. But you have to notice what’s normal for you because if it has any changes like foul odor or blood you should visit your doctor.
Myth 5: Hymen decides your virginity.
Fact: No! Hymen is just a thin, flesh tissue that just surrounds or partially covers the vaginal opening. This is true that the hymen can be torn or stretched during your first sexual intercourse. But the idea that it can reveal whether or not you have had sex is a myth.
The hymen can even break because of physical activity, medical procedures, or even because of a tampon or menstrual cup use. Also, some of the girls are not even born with no hymen.
Myth 6: Your vagina will show symptoms if you get an STD.
Fact: Some women get symptoms for chlamydia, gonorrhea, herpes, or syphilis a few infections will not show symptoms whatsoever. Most of the women who have Chlamydia have no idea they have it.
In women, certain STDs can lead to infertility and permanent damage to the reproductive system. This is why regular testing for STD is so important.
Myth 7: Your vagina will permanently be stretched out after childbirth.
Fact: The thought of pushing out a baby from the cervix through the vagina is scary and painful but it does not affect things much in the long run.
The vagina is elastic and it can get back to its normal size even after childbirth. You can even try pelvic floor exercises to speed up this process as it normally takes a few months.
